Trainee Program
A number of Merit and Travel Awards will be offered to Trainees at worldsleep07. At least 80 awards will be initially
available and depending on demand and further sponsorship, more awards may become available.
- Merit Award valued at AUD1,500
- Travel Award valued at AUD1,000
Trainees must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for a Trainee award (either Merit based or Travel):
- Be enrolled in a higher degree (Masters or PhD or equivalent) or
- Be within two years of receiving a PhD (or equivalent) and still be predominantly working in the area of sleep research
Applicants must also provide a:
- Copy of current student ID or copy of PhD (or equivalent degree)
- Letter from their supervisor verifying trainee status as per above criteria
Applicants will also be required to:
- Submit an abstract for worldsleep07 as first author by 15 April 2007
- Register at the appropriate rate
- Attend the Trainee Professional Development Workshop at the Cairns Convention Centre on Sunday 2 September 2007
Trainees will also have the chance to meet other Trainees and network with established researchers from around
the world during an informal Trainee breakfast held daily throughout worldsleep07.
All successful Merit Award recipients may be required to give an oral presentation at one of three symposia to be held during worldsleep07. All successful Travel Award recipients will present a poster. Unsuccessful Merit Award applicants will automatically be considered for a Travel Award.
To apply for an award please complete the Trainee Registration Section online. Applicants will be notified of results in May 2007.
Trainee Professional Development Day
One of the highlights of the worldsleep07 Trainee Program will be the Trainee Professional Development Day, to be held on Sunday 2nd September at the Cairns Convention Centre. This day will start at 9am on Sunday 2nd September, and will consist of a Keynote address by Anna Wirz-Justice and a number of concurrent, interactive workshops. Lunch will be provided. The Trainee Professional Development Day will conclude at around 4:30pm, in time for everyone to enjoy the worldsleep07 Opening Ceremony and Welcome Drinks.
All trainees are encouraged to attend this day, and all recipients of travel awards will be required to attend the Trainee Professional Development Day in order to be eligible for their award. Attendance at this day is free for trainees.
Trainees will be required to register for the day, as attendees will need to nominate which workshops they wish to attend. Registration forms will be available on the website soon, and trainees who have submitted abstracts and registered for the congress will be notified via email also when they are available.
